Dr. Sonja A. Francis grew up in Trinidad and Tobago, where she graduated from the University of the West Indies with a first class honours B.Sc. in Chemistry and Management. She earned a Ph.D. in Chemistry at the University of Alberta in 2013, where her research focused on the development of fuel-cell catalysts. As a Resnick Prize Postdoctoral Scholar at the California Institute of Technology, she studied catalyst discovery for carbon dioxide reduction to value-added products. She is now an award-winning lecturer in the General Chemistry sequence at Princeton, and has been a member of the department since 2016. She is interested in inclusive, innovative, and metacognitive teaching and learning strategies, and collaborates with the Emma Bloomberg Center for Access and Opportunity as a Scholars Institute Fellowship Program Faculty Fellow.
